If the pandemic has taught us anything it has been the reintroduction of relaxing on the sofa and watching something on the big screen — whether that’s your TV, computer, iPad or phone.

Now that the world is slowly opening up, some of us have become accustomed to our new routine of spending time with an electronic device to watch a movie or our favorite show. My family is no different. When we weren’t spending quality family time together playing UNO,  board games, or watching a family movie, we retreated to our individual spaces to watch our own shows.

We have a shared family subscription to Netflix and each of us have our own personalized ‘channel’ within Netflix. Lately we have watched Netflix more than traditional television. We still have our favorite shows that we record to view at a later date but Netflix has been our go to since the pandemic started.

Whatever your preference — I’m sharing six (6) of my favorite shows, in no particular order.

  • The Whole Truth — (courtroom, drama, thriller) — 1 hour 33 minutes  Trying to earn an acquittal for a teen client accused of murdering his wealth father, a defense attorney uncovers disturbing facts about the victim. This movie ends with a twist. For people who are very observant, figuring out who did it will be easy. There are subtle clues throughout the movie but if you are not paying attention, you will be shocked at the end! I was!
  • Startup — (crime, drama) — 3 seasons  An attempt to launder stolen money finances a cryptocurrency that puts entrepreneurs in business with a corrupt FBI agent and a Miami gang. You ever watch a show or a movie and think, “This is happening in real life — somewhere!” The main three characters don’t start on the best of terms but from season to season, they develop bond that has its ebbs and flows, like any relationship. The unique trait about their rollercoaster friendship is that they don’t start “together” but the end in the ultimate moment of solidarity.
  • Miss Sloane — (thriller, suspenseful) — 2 hours 11 minutes  A tenacious Capitol Hill lobbyist with a well-earned reputation for winning takes on the most challenging battle of her career. Miss Sloane is feisty, fiery, fierce, and is always two steps ahead of the people out to get her. The irony is she set the entire process in motion, purposefully.
  • Lupin — (mystery, crime) — 2 seasons  Years after a tragic injustice, Assane seeks to settle a score and a debt by stealing a diamond necklace, but the heist takes an unexpected turn. If being “invisible” was a person. Assane is a man of mystery and a very visible magician. He hides in plain sight and when a policeman figures out his true identity, that motivates Assane even more to prove the wrong that was inflicted on his family! This is an edge of your seat watch. You are always wondering what episode will be the one when Assane is captured for all his antics.
  • Ginny and Georgian — (drama, comedy) — 1 season  Free-spirited Georgia and her two kids, Ginny and Austin, move north in search of a fresh start but find that the road to new beginnings can be bumpy. This series only has one season. If you are a parent, you will want to jump through the screen to have a serious conversation with Ginny. You may even want to be strapped with some leather, if you are that parent that believes in spankings. Parenting is full of sacrifices and Georgia makes several that leads to the ultimate sacrifice and causes Ginny to do the same thing her mom Georgia did as a teenager.
  • Elite — (mystery, crime, thriller, drama, LGBTQ) — 4 seasons  When three working-class teens enroll in an exclusive private school in Spain, the clash between them and the wealthy students leads to murder. The original version is in Spanish but the Netflix series has an English overlay. After the fourth season, there are six short stories that include the backstory or an extension of the storyline from all of the seasons. If you like storylines that involve high school students, this is for you. If you like drama series coupled with mystery, this is for you. I like to watch shows that pique my curiosity and I have to figure out what character did what. When it ends with the unexpected, that’s the best part.

I don’t know what I’m going to watch next but since my regular television shows are not on during the summer, Netflix will get endless viewing hours from my family and I, especially me.

Which one of these Netflix shows will you watch?

What are your favorite Netflix shows?

Let me know in the comments.

xoxo, Natashia
