“When you get into a hotel room, you lock the door, and you know there is a secrecy, there is a luxury, there is fantasy. There is comfort. There is reassurance.”
diane von furstenberg
Let’s be honest, we all have a little bougieness inside of us. It’s ok if you don’t want to admit it.
People who have a superior attitude and act like they are better than others gets On. My. Last. Nerve!
But…let’s consider this. When you travel…
- Are you particular about where you stay?
- Do you have bougie tendencies when selecting your hotel accommodations?
- Do you look for convenience, comfort, or affordability?
I look for affordability first then narrow it down to convenience – “do I want to walk or drive to the destination.” Then I look at aesthetics, customer comments, and star ratings.
On a recent trip to Houston for the Nigerian Festival, I was literally looking for hotels as we were on the way. I’m not a procrastinator but there was a hurricane the week before and we weren’t sure if we were still going.
The festival was near the Toyota Center which meant I needed to locate a hotel downtown. One that was in walking distance. Parking downtown in a big city can be pricey and difficult to find.
I decided to use booking.com. The process was simple.
Follow these steps and you too will live in luxury if only for one day.
- select the dates and number of adults and children then type in your destination and it will populate the hotels in the area. Or, you can select the destination first and you will be directed to a screen showing a list of hotels in the area. You can then adjust the dates and the number of adults and children.
- Once you select the hotel that appeals to you most, a gallery of pictures will reveal the exterior, lobby, rooms, and other areas.
- If you’re satisfied with your selection you can pay with any credit card or PayPal. You’ll receive a confirmation code via email which is used to log into the app OR to be used on the website to confirm your reservation.
That’s its. Simple as that.
Although we saw the pictures on booking.com, the reality was more pleasing!
Experience the Best of Downtown Houston. As the website states, “Connect to the city like never before at the new AC Hotel Houston Downtown. Ideally situated near the Midtown area and attractions like Minute Maid Park, our hotel is tailor-made for creative, entrepreneurial spirits looking to focus, be present and connect with others. Modern guest rooms are designed with clean lines and a neutral color palette and feature complimentary Wi-Fi, plush beds, TVs with streaming capabilities and premium toiletries in the bathroom. Begin your day with a European breakfast at AC Kitchen or visit the AC Lounge nightly for a menu of tapas-inspired bites. Take time to explore while you’re here, too; the Downtown Aquarium, the Houston Theater District and other attractions are nearby.”
Since AC Hotel Houston already had our information, check in was easy. All I had to do was show my form of payment and driver’s license.
We were impressed with the hotel’s clean and sophisticated appearance. For me, the lobby is a preview of the rooms. If my husband and I were not “feeling it” we would have canceled and went to another hotel close by – cancellation fee be damned!
The hotel only has 10 floors and our luxurious room was on the third floor. Access to the elevator requires you to input the number of your floor. Once the elevator opens, you are whisked away to a hallway of mystery.
Opening the door leads you into a modern oasis of comfort and peace.

I was exhausted from our drive so I didn’t take pictures once we arrived. However, this is exactly how our room looked. Of all the hotels I’ve called “home” none have ever had a bed and pillows as comfortable as AC Hotel Houston.
I like my pillows to be firm, yet soft so I can comfortably perch myself in that immovable position. You know what I’m talking about. That position so comfortable that you refuse to move even for the restroom!
I know what you’re thinking. How did the bathroom accommodations look?
If you’re anything like me, those are equally as important. And, just as expected, my husband and I were not disappointed. Our bathroom had a tempered glass barn door and the toilet was beside the door, across from the sink. There was a rainfall shower head in the ceiling and a handheld shower nozzle. My husband and I were able to comfortably fit in the shower stall – together.

Our third floor view showed the beauty of downtown Houston.
Since I have stayed at a downtown hotel before, I knew breakfast was not included in the price of the stay. The dining accommodations were just as luxurious as the lobby and the room.

This wasn’t our first trip to Houston but I will say this was the best. Not only did we enjoy the Nigerian Festival but our “home” was complete with luxurious accommodations.
If you ever decide to visit Houston, I hope you decide to stay at the AC Hotel Houston. And, if you do, let me know.
You can even tell them I sent you.
